Diamond Pet Foods to use lightweight, RFID-enabled pallets

Manufacturer of natural pet foods begins shipping its products on RFID-embedded, all-plastic pallets to increase efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of its brand.

Diamond Pet Foods of Meta, MO, will begin shipping its products on lightweight, 100% recyclable plastic pallets with embedded radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, from Intelligent Global Pooling Systems (iGPS Company, LLC), the supplier announced. Founded in 1970, Diamond Pet Foods’ mission is to provide the highest quality pet foods at an affordable price so that everyone, from a commercial kennel operation to a child feeding their first puppy or kitten, can afford high-quality nutrition.

“As a family-owned business, we take extra care in all aspects of our business, from incoming ingredients to outgoing product, with extensive quality control at every step along the way,” says Andy Kampeter, supply chain manager of Diamond Pet Foods. “iGPS’ lightweight plastic platform enhances the efficiency and environmental quality of our business and is a welcome addition to our operations.”

Switching from wood pallets to lighter-weight iGPS plastic platforms yields “game-changing operational savings,” says iGPS. Studies performed by iGPS customers consistently show significant bottom-line savings, as the result of lower transport costs, dramatically reduced production downtime, larger loads per pallet, reduced product damage, and fewer rejected loads, the company says. It also adds that iGPS platforms put an end to broken boards and protruding nails that can damage product and injure workers.

iGPS pallets also set a standard in hygiene, as they can be easily cleaned, do not absorb fluids that can cross-contaminate food and other consumer products, and never require treatment with toxic pesticides or fungicides. In fact, iGPS says its pallet is the world’s only rental pallet to receive Food Equipment Certification from NSF International, says the company.
