Montabaur, Germany – April 9, 2018 – Klöckner Pentaplast’s Pharmaceutical & Medical Device Films Division (kp Pharma) announces that the investment previously made in their Suzhou China facility is now fully operational. kp expands its converting capabilities for pharmaceutical business in China by installing a state-of-the-art slitting line at its Chinese site. This expansion reduces lead times and increases flexibility for all material grades supplied into the Chinese market through local storage and supply.

The new qualified slitting center in China meets the rigorous requirements of ISO 15378. The closed clean room environment of the slitting area is in accordance with class D 100,000. Furthermore, the site has a fully operational micro-biological lab (environment class C 10,000) which enables quality control covering all requirements of the CFDA regulation. Several international pharmaceutical customers have visited the site to review the slitting capability, documentation and have provided extremely positive feedback. Due to its favorable geographic location it is convenient for transportation and helps reduce lead times.

Tracey Peacock, President, Pharmaceutical & Medical Device Films at kp, said, “We are seeing substantial growth in all product segments in Asia. New CFDA regulations in China are increasing the focus on the quality and performance of the packaging materials used, as well as increased demand for barrier performance to protect the sensitivity of new drugs. We are excited to make this first and significant step into China to support these trends in our market place.”
The new capacity will also support the Asian market as it continues to experience double-digit growth. Tracey Peacock went on to say, “We have been quietly adding to our capabilities in other parts of the world and now we will accelerate the actions to address the growing Asian market place.

Asia provides exciting opportunities for kp as regulation continues to increase with many EMEA and US standards being adopted. We are excited about the opportunities in the region and this expansion, in conjunction with our local manufacturing in Thailand, is just the beginning of some great plans.” Learn more about the company and our technology as we welcome you at Booth N29 at API China, April 11- 13, 2018, in Shanghai.
