Nordic Group Takes on Large-Scale Serialization Program

European pharmaceutical company partners with Supply Chain Wizard to implement serialization across multiple lines to meet U.S. and EU regs.

Nordic Group, a privately owned pan-European pharmaceutical company with a presence in 17 countries, focuses on the development and commercialization of niche, hospital, and orphan products to respond to unmet medical needs.

Overseeing the company’s large-scale European serialization project will be Supply Chain Wizard, a full-service global consulting firm specializing in serialization and traceability, as well as supply chain strategy and operational transformation programs. Supply Chain Wizard will coordinate multiple serialization product providers to implement serialization activities and disciplines across multiple lines and locations, including the approximately 30 CMOs and 70 customers utilized by Nordic Group.

Nordic develops and sells and sales of its own products, but also works on partner products acquired at various stages of development. In addition to seven in-house lines, Nordic Group comprises Disphar Intl. in the Netherlands, QPharma Manufacturing in Sweden, Nordic Pharma in the Netherlands, Nordic Pharma Affiliates and Nordic Drugs in Nordic region.

Together with local partner Epista Life Science, Supply Chain Wizard will guide end-to-end execution of a comprehensive serialization and track-and-trace program, allowing Nordic Group to achieve cost-effective regulatory compliance and, through analysis of newfound metrics, realize added value through improved overall efficiency and productivity. This multi-phased serialization project will include managing packaging line integration and validation, IT system implementation and validation, CMO/customer onboarding and IT connectivity.

The program’s main markets for serialization compliance are the U.S. and EU regions, for the U.S. Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) and EU Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD) regulations. Vendors selected for the project span the full spectrum of hardware and software solutions, including Wipotec-OCS, Advanco and TraceLink.
