Distribution Management Event in Southern California

The conference hosted by the Healthcare Distribution Alliance Mar. 10 through 13 will feature a traceability dispenser panel, lessons learned from hurricanes for emergency logistics and more. Distribution Management Award nominations accepted through Jan. 4.

Coming to Palm Desert, CA, Mar. 10 to 13, HDA’s 2019 Distribution Management Conference and Expo will offer networking and supply chain education sessions for a variety of professionals in healthcare distribution, including manufacturers, distributors, consultants and other third parties.

A special traceability dispenser panel from the retail/pharmacy community will share their current thinking, approaches and challenges regarding DSCSA implementation. By 2020, the role of dispensers will intensify under the DSCSA as they consider how to meet such requirements as only accepting products with the required product identifier or verifying products units during suspect product investigations. The panel will address:

  • Whether the requirement for distributors and manufacturers to verify returns in 2019 will impact dispensers returning items to them

  • Meeting the 2020 dispensers’ requirements; planning for 2023 compliance including cost, scanning, hardware upgrades

  • Communication strategies for notifying FDA and upstream suppliers

Other hot topics include disaster logistics, specialty distribution, social media analysis in supply chain security and more.

Awards

HDA reports that its Distribution Management Award (DMA), announced at the conference, honors “HDA member companies' efforts to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and safety of the healthcare supply chain through trading partner initiatives that enhance processes, reduce costs and leverage advanced technologies or logistical practices.”

In 2018, Smith Drug Company received the DMA for their implementation of a cloud-based predictive inventory management system (IMS).

Nominations are accepted through Jan 4.
