Tear tape for multi-pack boxes

The Heinz Farley’s plant in Kendal, Cumbria, UK, produces dehydrated, boxed meal products for babies and toddlers. The company decided to overwrap multi-packs of its boxed products for retail sale.

Heinz had previous good results on other multi-pack overwrap applications with easy-open Supastrip® tear tape from Payne. So the company decided to use the same tear tape system for the Heinz Farley’s baby foods. Supastrip provides immediately visual tamper evidence and offers quick, easy consumer access to the product just by pulling the tape. For added convenience, the tear tape protrudes beyond the seal area, presenting a prominent opening point.

The pressure-sensitive adhesive bonds on contact to most overwrap films and renders a wrinkle-free appearance on the finished packs. Payne tapes are supported by a range of dispensers and applicators that can be retrofitted to most types of wrappers.

Heinz packaging technologist John Hebblethwaite says, “We are delighted with Payne’s role in bringing multi-packs of Heinz Baby Rice, Breakfasts, and Dinners to shelves.”
