Attendees at the 2014 Cool Chain & Controlled Room Temperature Logistics Europe conference in Luxembourg were invited to raise a glass to the winners of this year’s Cool Chain Logistics Europe Excellence Awards at the end of day one, Jan. 28. As Luxexpo exposition center staff distributed fluted glasses of champagne to audience members, three award winners—two companies, and one individual—were announced by last year’s winners.
The Cool Chain Excellence Awards recognize outstanding contributions in temperature control logistics and QA (Quality Assurance), and are reportedly the pharmaceutical cold chain industry’s only awards.
Best Temperature Control Logistics Project
This year’s award for Best Temperature Control Logistics Project was given to Kuehne + Nagel for its KN PharmaChain. The globally launched KN PharmaChain is a multimodal pharma and healthcare-specific logistics solution that the company says offers:
• Door-to-door temperature control
• In-transit wireless temperature measurement
• 24-hour alert and corrective action system
• Best practice standards for facilities
• Thorough trade lane assessment, including audit and risk assessment of all third parties
• Standardized SOPs and training programs
Supply Chain Integrity Innovation of the Year
The award for Supply Chain Integrity Innovation of the Year was presented to SkyCell for its SkyCell 770C, a proprietary, cell-based insulation system and fail-safe cooling system, made from 100% recyclable, lightweight materials, that can be used to distribute critical pharma products around the world.
Lifetime Achievement Award
Given by ColdChainIQ.com, the Lifetime Achievement Award for 2014 was presented to Simon White, Director Quality Operations, Global Logistics & Supply, EMEA Region, for Pfizer.
