Abbott's scaffold wins technology innovation award

Innovation is alive and well at Abbott Laboratories, where the global health firm earned a 2011 Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award for its Bioresorbable Vascular Scaffold. The scaffold dissolves in the body after about two years, leaving patients with a treated vessel free of a permanent metallic implant.

Reckitt Benckiser releases 2010 sustainability report

Reckitt Benckiser (RB) plc, a global producer of household, health, and personal care products, announced its 2010 Sustainability Report, which along with its associated data, details the company's major sustainability improvements, independently assured by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. The company announced that its Carbon 20 program achievements are ahead of schedule, with reduced packaging playing a part of the company's sustainability plans.

A dirty little secret is no longer such a secret

More than two-thirds of respondents to a survey about hand washing admit they've seen their co-workers not wash their hands after using the restroom, with men the most guilty. SCA, a global hygiene and paper company that develops and produces personal care products, including hand towels and soap found in many office and public restrooms, used KRC Research to conduct a telephone survey on the topic.

In this video taken at the 9th Cold Chain & Temperature Management Global Forum in Philadelphia, Mark Davis, product manager, Healthcare Logistics, UPS, describes the PharmaPort™ 360 container. Manufactured by Cool Containers for UPS Temperature True® service, the container helps reduce product losses by proactively maintaining product integrity as shipments move through the supply chain, limiting temperature fluctuations to within 2° of its preconfigured 5° set point, sustaining this range for hold times of more than 100 hours at an ambient temperature of 23°C.

Thin pharmaceutical barrier film

Pentapharm® ACLAR® PA600/02 barrier films for pharmaceutical packaging applications include PA600/02 two-layer (PVC/ACLAR®) laminated film that provides the highest moisture barrier in the product line. That film is made with Honeywell's 152-micron ACLAR® UltRx6000, and is suited for solid oral-dose packaging, powders, ethical drugs, OTC, generics, physician samples, veterinary medicine, and nutraceuticals. The 600/02 films are transparent, non-yellowing, and offer excellent machinability on existing standard form/fill/seal packaging lines and tooling.
