Tracking recent trends in FDA's enforcement

Measuring agency activity is challenging, but FDA's device, food, and biologics people are the busiest with recalls. When trying to measure what the FDA's up to, looking at the agency's statistics on enforcement actions can be enlightening but also ambiguous. Because there are some things you can tell by looking at the numbers, while some things are uncertain.

Adherence packaging drives gains in patient persistency

Independent study shows unit-dose patient adherence packaging improves patient persistency over 12 months. The adherence study looked at patient persistency rates over a 12-month period by analyzing a cohort of ~200,000 qualified patients who filled their prescriptions in either a traditional bottle or a patient adherence package found that the adherence package had a 17-point increase in persistency.

Shoppers say 'green' packaging is 'not my problem'

A recent study says shoppers show little willingness to make the effort on environmentally friendly packaging, looking for manufacturers and government to take the lead. Ironically, while few indicated they would like to choose more environmentally friendly packaging, nearly half think manufacturers should produce more of it; and 35% think government should mandate stricter environmental standards for packaging.

Green consumerism is on the rise, poll shows

Providing a different perspective than the story above, 78% of consumers believe more than ever that buying green is a way to shop with their values and ethics (up 9 points versus two years ago). That's according to a new poll, "Green in the Economy II," from Green is Universal, NBC Universal's ongoing initiative dedicated to raising green awareness. The poll was originally conducted in 2009 and was recently redone to determine the change in consumer sentiment around green. The findings indicate that there is a larger appetite for green products than there was two years ago-with brand loyalty playing a key factor.
