FDA's track-and-trace workshop talks Turkey about item-level pharmaceutical packaging
A special report from a mid-February FDA workshop looks at drug package serialization requirements, and which have gone into effect, and whose requirements and standards may or may not jibe with the standards the FDA is starting to develop in the U.S. market. Pharmaceutical manufacturers swarmed the two-day workshop, expressing concern over potential costs, and that the standards FDA develops could conflict with those underlying the pharmaceutical packaging security programs already instituted by Turkey, whose program may be used in other European Union countries.

Greener Package Awards gain in prestige
Entries are now being accepted for the 2011 Greener Package Awards, the industry's only independent annual competition honoring the most innovative and environmentally significant approaches to packaging sustainability. Since the second edition of the competition last year, Greener Package and its Advisory Board of Experts have revamped the award's entry requirements to more fully reflect the industry's movement toward data-driven solutions. New, more substantive entry requirements rely on emerging industry standards to eliminate "greenwashing," and to identify excellence.
