Packaging assists in identifying counterfeit Avastin
|
|
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Feb. 14 reported that a counterfeit version of Genentech's (a member company of Roche) cancer treatment medication Avastin was in U.S. distribution. Genentech/Roche are using packaging and working with the FDA and law enforcement to determine the source of the counterfeit cancer med to help prevent further distribution.

Pfizer's voluntary recall reminds us that packaging and labeling are as crucial as any other manufacturing aspect. As a cost item, packaging users don't always appreciate the necessary sophistication of package materials and designs. The vaguely insulting phrase, "it's just labeling," is too often used to convey a second-class status for the words and graphics on packaging.

Pharmapack awards announced in Paris
|
|
Packaging that protects against sharps, and a child-resistant slider pack earn honors at Pharmapack Europe 2012. Burgopak's Child-Resistant Slider pack won the 'Child-Resistant' Award while Pharmapack's 'Safety' Award Hospital product went to K-Pack Surshield from Terumo. The awards were given to the most innovative packaging developed for drugs, veterinary products, and devices placed on the French market between December 2010 and 2011. |
