Packaging contributes to Haitian relief efforts

iStock_Haiti.jpgA January 19 report on McClatchy, “U.S. military contemplates end of rescue phase in Haiti” notes the U.S. military “has delivered 400,000 bottles of water and 300,000 food rations” in Haiti.

Officialwire.com reports, “The hope for Haiti will rely on steady support from multiple organizations.” That’s a quick big-picture view. Here are some examples of packaged medical, food, and water supplies headed to Haiti:

AcuTemp Thermal Systems and CSafe, LLC, are teaming up to provide temperature-controlled containers to aid relief efforts.

• So far, “more than 500 tons of Red Cross aid have been mobilized, including medical supplies.”

• Parata Systems is sending two Mini® pill-dispensing robots with generators, representing a $150,000 donation.

• Kids Against Hunger—Rock County Rotary, Inc., “has packaged more than 300,000 of their nutritious meals, looking to send 100,000 more to the victims of the worst natural disaster in Haiti’s history.” The effort is being done at Kandu Industries’ packaging facility, which holds a capacity of 30 people and has more than 90 volunteers signed up to help.

• Several pork processors, including ConAgra Foods, Tyson Foods, Hormel Foods, and Cargill are contributing to the American Red Cross for its International Relief Fund.

InterVol, Rochester General Hospital, and Constellation Brands are teaming up to send medical supplies.

Blessings Intl. repackages pharmaceuticals for needy missions around the globe, and provides opportunities to help with Haitian relief efforts.
