In February, radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip and reader supplier Impinj (www.impinj.com) announced that Stamford, CT-based Purdue Pharma LP plans to deploy item-level Generation 2 RFID tagging on a major packaging line. Impinj's Grand-Prix ultra-high-frequency system includes Speedway readers, tags powered by Monza chips, plus application-specific near-field reader antennas.
Purdue is implementing Systech's (www.systech-tips.com) TIPS Serialized Product Tracking system to support a commercial infrastructure of item, case, and warehouse pick, pack, and ship operations. Impinj reported that during advance testing, the packaging line delivered 100% tag read readability.
"The Impinj RFID technology has been selected as an integral part of our packaging line improvements to help the company establish an e-pedigree process that will significantly improve the delivery of products from the factory to the pharmacy counter," Aaron Graham was quoted as saying.
