Purdue Pharma To Deploy Gen 2 Tagging On Packaging line

In February, radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip and reader supplier Impinj (www.impinj.com) announced that Stamford, CT-based Purdue Pharma LP plans to deploy item-level Generation 2 RFID tagging on a major packaging line. Impinj's Grand-Prix ultra-high-frequency system includes Speedway readers, tags powered by Monza chips, plus application-specific near-field reader antennas.

Purdue is implementing Systech's (www.systech-tips.com) TIPS Serialized Product Tracking system to support a commercial infrastructure of item, case, and warehouse pick, pack, and ship operations. Impinj reported that during advance testing, the packaging line delivered 100% tag read readability.

"The Impinj RFID technology has been selected as an integral part of our packaging line improvements to help the company establish an e-pedigree process that will significantly improve the delivery of products from the factory to the pharmacy counter," Aaron Graham was quoted as saying. Graham is the vice president of corporate security/chief security office at Purdue Pharma. [HCP]
