New packaging helps reintroduce antioxidant health drink

NewSunNutrition.jpg
Aluminum can lends shelf appeal for New Sun Nutrition's reformulated Free Radical Scavenging (FRS) beverages. In February, New Sun Nutrition's CEO Richard Lamb announced, "Since the launch of FRS in 2004, we have continued to fine-tune the product and are proud to introduce a great-tasting, improved formula in addition to an eye-catching new recyclable can for the ready-to-drink format." The aluminum can with pull tab from Rexam (www.rexam.com) offers a one-year shelf life for the beverage that requires no refrigeration. New Sun Nutrition says the shelf life exceeds that of the plastic bottle that this can replaced.

"The can was designed to differentiate our healthy antioxidant-based products from other new-age beverages as well as traditional caffeine and sugar-laden energy drinks," says Lamb. "The design was created to demonstrate the scientific heritage and potency of our product. The hexagons represent molecules," Lamb adds.

New Sun Nutrition, a developer and distributor of nutritional supplements, healthy snacks and beverages, markets the 11-oz FRS beverages in natural and low-calorie versions.

The reformulated line includes FRS's original patented formula that combines antioxidants with vitamins and metabolic enhancers to provide a sustained energy boost and long-term antioxidant health protection.

"The new FRS can and flavor represent an excellent upgrade to an already strong concept. The cans have been very well-received by our trade customers," says Jeff Jordano, president, Pacific Beverage Company, a New Sun Nutrition distributor.

"The response to our new packaging has been incredibly positive from a retailer and a consumer perspective," reports Lamb. "The new packaging and new look have definitely contributed to increased sales."

FRS is contract manufactured and packaged by a variety of companies throughout the U.S. Cans are available in grocery, health, and convenience stores for $2.29 each. Consumers may order varieties of the cans at the company's www.frs.com website. The beverages are available in select West Coast markets including Santa Barbara, CA, San Diego, and Seattle. Carpinteria, CA-based New Sun Nutrition's 2007 retail distribution goals for FRS cans include expanding direct store delivery distributor alignments throughout the West Coast and expansion to select East Coast markets.
